CapCut

CapCut is a timeline video editor aimed squarely at short-form content. The desktop build gives you multi-track editing, keyframes, speed curves and masking, but the parts people actually come for are the automated ones: auto-captions from speech, background removal without a green screen, beat detection that snaps cuts to music, and a large library of templates you can drop footage into.

Projects sync with the mobile app through a CapCut account, so an edit started on a phone can be finished on a desktop with a proper timeline and a keyboard.

Licence note: CapCut is free to download and covers most editing work at no cost, but a subscription tier (CapCut Pro) gates some effects, stock assets and higher-tier export settings. Install it from CapCut's own site.
